Welcome to Castle Bytham

This website is very much a "work in progress". The purpose is to promote both Castle Bytham & the book I'm currently working on - "Castle Bytham, A Photographic History".

I hope that people from and connected to Castle Bytham village will help me in this project as it is, afterall, our village.

Why do I think that this is important ?
Over the years employment, the reason for the villages existence, has declined in all villages and as such young people move out to find work. Villages have largely become home to the financially secure and elderly. So there is a reasonable turnover of people few of which understand how or why their chosen home has evolved.

Another reason, albeit along similar lines, is to help put an end to some of the more daft examples of bad planning which is all to evident in so many villages rich in history. By educating people in the visual evolution of buildings I hope that people will have more of an appreciation of how to design buildings to fit in with their surroundings and not just appear to be an out of place modern box.

A limited number of prints are now available from Nigel Allsopp's workshop at 10 Castle Gate. ALL profits go back into this project. While you are there why not commission Nigel to make you a piece of furniture & help keep one of the last craftsmen based in the village.
